Setting an Account Password Policy

The administrator of FTP-Stream account can set a password policy for his account to specify complexity requirements and rotation periods for his users' passwords. It provides a possibility to allow users change their passwords, to set a number of failed login attempts, to set minimum password length, to force password change on the first login or after a specified period and to specify password construction requirements. 

Password Policy Options

The following options are available for configuring the password policy:

Allow Users to Change Password 

This option is used to allow users of the FTP-Stream account change their passwords.

Password Change Forced on First Login

It is used with the purpose of forced password change, when the user logs in for the first time. 

Password Change Forced Every (days)

It is used when the admin wants to set the frequency of forced password changes.

Lockout after (failed attempts)

It allows to set a number of failed login attempts.  

Force Strong Passwords

It is used to force users to set strong passwords. If this check box is selected, additional options (below) appear to specify strong password requirements. 

Minimum Password Length 

It is used to specify the minimum number of characters allowed in the user's password.

Disallow Dictionary Words 

This option is used to disallow the usage of dictionary words.

Must Contain Alpha Characters

It allows to set the minimum length of the password that should contain only alpha characters.

Must Contain Numeric Characters

It allows to set the minimum length of the password that should contain only numeric characters.

Must Contain Non-alphanumeric Characters

It allows to set the minimum length of the password that should contain only special characters.

Steps To Set a Password Policy

The admin can create, change, or delete a password policy in the Site Properties tab of his account.

To create or change a password policy
  1. Log in to FTP-Stream account
  2. Go to the Site Properties tab
  3. In the User Password Policy section, select the options that should be applied to the password policy.
  4. Click the Update button.
To delete a password policy 
  1. Log in to FTP-Stream account
  2. Go to the Site Properties tab
  3. In the User Password Policy section, clear the check boxes that were selected. 
  4. Click the Update button.
